NATURE CLASSROOM IN MÁGUEZ
On April 20th and 21st our pupils from Year 3 experienced a great adventure: They went camping!
On Thursday morning they left for Maguez where they enjoyed two days of nature, working on various basic values of respect, care and conservation of the environment.
After the bus journey, we settled into the hostel and then left for a visit to the village, but not before saying hello to some very special neighbours: the donkey Romeo, the horse Potos and the pony Rubio.
During the walk they visited the most characteristic parts of the village and learnt different aspects of the local agriculture. They learned about the common plants that can be found there, but they also had time to relax and play in the local park.
After lunch and an explanation about recycling and the correct use of the different containers, the pupils took part in a handcraft workshop where they demonstrated their artistic talents using clay. To finish off the afternoon they enjoyed the village´s sports facilities playing football, badminton, tennis, Frisbee and skipping.
During the evening another great adventure awaited them: they went out to look for night animals, using their torches to help them. They didn´t take long to find some. Afterwards a small campfire was made to taste melted marshmallows, they were delicious!
The next morning, after their well-deserved rest, the children prepared for another expedition: to climb the Atalaya mountain, and to continue learning about the local plants and animal life of this beautiful village. On this mountain they discovered a well hidden treasure, in the caves where pirates once lived in Lanzarote. Thankfully our belongings were safely hidden and they left us chocolate coins!
After our great hike, we enjoyed an ice-cream, which helped us to regain our strength to return to the hostel and say goodbye to this marvellous day.
After lunch and packing, the pupils thanked the guides for all their super help and explanations, and for all the organised activities. Hoping to come back soon to repeat this great experience.
It was a few days filled with lovely moments, fun, enthusiasm and happiness!
