On October 16th “International food day”, we discussed with the children what an ideal balanced diet would consist of. We also took the opportunity to explain to the children that there are some families who are not as fortunate as ourselves and that the children do not always have the opportunity of a nutritious diet. We talked about a harvest collection in order to help families in need in the area.
A British tradition at “Harvest” time is to donate the harvest surplus, and therefore during two weeks all members of the Queen’s School, pupils, parents and teachers collaborated, donating a grand total of 450 pounds in weight of food produce and hygiene products to the “Food Bank of Yaiza.”
We hope that the value of solidarity and helping people in need has made an impact on the pupils, and becomes something they take part in frequently.
A big thank you to all the families who contributed!
