As part of the British and Spanish curriculum the pupils from year 4 visited the “Guatiza Cactus Garden” so as to deepen their knowledge of the particular aspects of these very special plants. They discovered their principle characteristics, observed hundreds of examples, their peculiarities and variety of shapes.
Walking through the gardens and listening to the guide the pupils widened their knowledge about cacti and the history of the garden itself. They were also shown the windmill and what it was used for in the olden days. The pupils participated in a treasure hunt activity looking for different types of cacti, their common name and their scientific name, country of origin, etc, and at the end they chose their favourite species to sketch.
Before returning to school, the children enjoyed their lunch with beautiful views of the unique environment.
It was a marvellous and enriching experience!
