Educational Programme
Our educational programme is based on the British Curriculum; following the Early Years Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum. In addition the pupils have a daily Spanish lesson which covers vocabulary, language and literature. This ensures that by the end of the primary stage our pupils are comfortable in using both languages.
Our topic based curriculum aims to develop pupils enjoyment, confidence and skills in all areas.
Communication, Language and Literacy
Children are encouraged through group and whole class activities to express themselves clearly at all times. Pupils are provided with opportunities to develop both specific and enriched vocabularies through activities such as role play, drama, group discussion and by relating personal and imaginary events.
Through our phonics scheme pupils gain an awareness of sounds and learn the skills needed to develop their reading and writing. We strive to develop reading fluency and ensure children are able to read a variety of different types of books and reading material. Pupils are encouraged to write for a variety of purposes which helps them to develop a love for writing. Through stimulating topics pupils enjoy utilizing their creative and imaginative writing skills. As pupils writing progresses they work to improve hand writing, spelling and punctuation skills.
Mathematics
We believe our philosophy provides pupils with the confidence and skills to enjoy and use mathematics to understand more profoundly other areas of the curriculum.
