As part of the British curriculum it is important that children have many opportunities to learn from first hand experiences. Reception and Year 1 left the school behind to explore the surrounding environment.
Year 1 class (5 to 6 years olds) have been studying “buildings” and visited the centre of Playa Blanca to observe the different architectural constructions. They looked at typical Canarian balconies, old and new buildings, hotels, houses and even the Church of Our Lady Carmen.
Reception class (4 to 5 years olds) have been studying “Mini-beasts” and visited the Sun Tropical hotel gardens where they discovered lots of different insect habitats, including a large fish pond. Equipped with magnifying glasses and jars for observing insects, water syringes and laboratory tweezers, they enjoyed a fun packed morning. They learned about insect camouflage and how these small creatures survive, as well as studying their habitats and the characteristics of the different species caught.
